IMG_0687.jpg

September 21, 2018, Middle East Downstairs, a 17 year old Brockton artist named SeeFour is opening for TDE’s Jay Rock and Reason. He absolutely kills it, putting on a jaw dropping performance for his hometown crowd.

2 years later, SeeFour has built up his repertoire by continuing to open/perform at many venues and releasing new music frequently. He was also nominated at the 2019 Boston Music Awards for 617 Sessions Artist of the Year.

SeeFour’s newest track “On God” (Listen here) has definitely been a top song to come out of the city this year, and it gives us all a little hope during these trying times.

Johnny Dube: What was your childhood like in Brockton?

SeeFour: My childhood in Brockton was intense. I lived on Green St. at the age of 5/6 and it was nothing but trouble all around but it was definitely a community where neighbors knew neighbors and that’s hard to find in a place or area. But I was exposed to a lot at a young age. And that helped form the person I am today and I’m happy and proud of that.

JD: What were/are some of your favorite spots in Brockton (or Boston)?

SF: Soundlab in Brockton is definitely one. It is a recording space for creatives and more. Mad Music Mill in Boston always has dope vibes that I enjoy and learn from. And The 100 Prints and Vault on 100 Main Street in Brockton it reflects good and black business in the city.

JD: How did your musical journey start?

SF: I started my music journey in elementary school. Great memories performing to prep kids for MCAS. I also performed at my 5th grade graduation so I’ve definitely had a strong passion for music since day 1. As years passed I was still writing but not hitting the studio. Until around 2014 I moved to Brockton and started getting into open mics and music competitions.

JD: Who or what are your biggest musical inspirations, and who do you look up to?

SF: I got a lot of musical inspirations. I’m Heavily inspired by old school , r&b and soul with a dab of funk. I look up to people like Prince, James Brown, Miles Davis, Funkadelics, when it comes down to today’s modern music I look up to people like Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, J.Cole, Smino, Saba, Mick Jenkins, West Side Boogie. Many more I can name it’s just gonna be a long list.

JD: How have experiences like opening for Jay Rock and other concerts shaped you as an artist?

SF: I am an entertainer and I love to perform so it was a GREAT experience being on the smallest stages and biggest stages. I just feel blessed to be doing what I love. When it came down to the Jay Rock show @ The Middle East Downstairs. I put that show in my top 5 shows because the show had good vibes. I met Jay Rock, Reason and Big B. and it was a sold out show. But artists fail to understand that people want their money's worth when they go see an artist and that's what I give them A SHOW.

JD: What tips and pieces of advice can you give to other young artists trying to make it?

SF: Don't worry about what another person is doing. Focus on yourself and your craft and it's gonna come back around 10x better.

JD: How have you been keeping busy and focused musically during quarantine?

SF: I've been keeping myself busy by at least making one song a day. And i'm working from home so I would say i've been enjoying the small things.

JD: What are your plans for the future?

SF: I feel like we never know what the futures gonna hold, I'm leaving that in god's hands.

But for my brand and team keep working. Keep collaborating and busting down doors because either way I'm gonna be heard!

The future is EXTREMELY bright for SeeFour and you should all be ready for the blow up!
